Reconnected the battery and with the help of my girlfriend tried to start it. It tried to start a few times and eventually started. It only ran for about 10 seconds but it started. We gave it another go and it ran for a bit longer but it seemed to be running really rich. After a bit of problem solving I discovered that I hadn't blocked off the extra holes in the inlet manifold, so the airflow sensor was freaking out and dumping the fuel in to compensate. All fixed now and it's running a lot better now.

The auto electrician came around today and hook up the alternator and starter. He said that everything else looked fine and that it should be right to start. We tried to crank it over but because the battery had sat for a few months without being used there was not enough power to every try and turn it over. So I thanked the sparky for his help and put the battery on charge overnight.
