Today I got to fit the aero screen, mirrors and the fuel cap. But unfortunately the fuel funnel supplied with the cap doesn't connect up to the fuel tank as it is designed for a caterham fuel tank. But I'll have to see what I can find.
This blog is dedicated to the building of my very own Birkin S3. A lotus 7 inspired kit car.
I have been trying to find a way of getting a different grille made up for the car, I don’t really like the standard one and have also been a fan of the caterham 7 grille. I have taken a picture of one and my original grille to a laser cutting company to see how much it is to get cut. I should have a quote within the next few days. I also took a few hours today to start masking up the car to get it painted. This way I should save a few dollars in labor and I don’t have to worry about any over spray on the chassis or any of the internal panels either.
It was in the early hours of the morning that I got home from work and decided to work on the car for a bit, seeing that I had to wait for everyone else to wake up. I removed the passenger seat from the car as I will be painting the car soon. I also reinstalled the scuttle for when the aero screen arrives.
I managed to remove the reverse lights from the car and boxed them with the rest of the indicators. I removed the rear guards as it won’t be too long before I get things painted, I had forgotten how small the body is without them. There was also a bit of unexpected news as well, I was planning to call my engineer tomorrow but he ended up calling me this afternoon with the news that my car can be registered, although I already knew that it could be, as an ICV. He said that he will start the process and that there shouldn’t be any hassles with getting it registered.
I fitted the spare wheel cradle so I could roughly mark where the spare tyre would sit so I could mark out for the reverse lights.
I’ve got the quote from Demon Tweeks ordered the parts. They have order them in as they are not a stock item. So I should have them in a week. I also rang my engineer today to see if he’d heard anything from Queensland Transport. He said that they haven’t gotten back to him yet and that he was going to follow up on them and see what was happening.
